If your searches aren’t returning the results you expect, this guide walks you through common causes and how to resolve them. Whether you’re using GoSearch or GoAI, these steps will help you find what you’re looking for more reliably.
1. Know Where You’re Searching
First, check if you’re using GoSearch or GoAI.
- GoSearch is a fast, semantic search engine that pulls from your connected tools based on relevance and keyword proximity.
- GoAI builds on that foundation with natural language understanding, surfacing more nuanced results by interpreting your intent and the context of your query.
If you are looking for a deeper response, click “Ask a follow up.” This will activate a GoAI conversation where you can continue the conversation with more context.
2. Use Language That Matches the Document
GoSearch and GoAI both use semantic search, so they understand related meanings, not just exact phrases. However, using keywords or phrasing that match the language in your documents improves accuracy.
Ask yourself:
- Are you using words that actually appear in the document you’re trying to find?
- Would someone unfamiliar with the file understand what it’s for?
For example, if your desired document just lists data, but doesn’t give context, considering adding a sentence in the document detailing its purpose.
If a human reader can understand the file’s purpose upon first glance, GoAI can too.
3. Check Visibility and Access
Before assuming a document is missing, verify that it’s visible and accessible.
If a document exists, but isn’t appearing:
- Go to the source app directly.
- Make sure you can access the file.
- Confirm the file includes relevant keywords or phrases you’re searching for.
- Ensure it’s included in what GoSearch can access via connectors.
If it’s both shared and searchable for your entire workspace, make sure you have the correct workspace connector enabled and synced.
If it’s shared with you personally, check that your personal connectors are connected and synced.
4. Verify Your Connectors Are Working
GoSearch depends on connectors to access your content. If resources aren’t appearing:
- Confirm that all intended connectors are enabled and fully synced.
- If you’re expecting shared content, make sure the workspace connector is available to you and synced.
- Don’t see a workspace connector you expect? Reach out to your admin to confirm access.
- Remove a connector and re-enable it if it appears stale or unresponsive.
5. Review the Quality of Your Results
Sometimes even though GoSearch is working, your findings may not be the most relevant.
Ask yourself:
- Are older documents appearing above newer, more relevant ones?
- Are outdated files or links being cited?
If so:
- Deprecate outdated resources.
- Update important documents so they contain clearer, current, and commonly-used language.
Improving the quality of your source material helps GoSearch and GoAI surface better results for everyone.
6. Enhance Search Context with GoSearch Features
