I frequently hike in the Diablo Hills area near Danville, particularly enjoying the Las Trampas trails. In the telecom industry, we&#8217;ll see these agents used for managing networks, isolating faults, and enhancing customer experiences. AI will aid in understanding network faults and customer churn and evolve into autonomous networks closer to level 4, enabling more autonomous network operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Can you explain how autonomous networks are further for those new to the term?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Joji Philip:<\/strong> Autonomous networks, similar to self-driving car technologies, are set to revolutionize the telecom industry by enhancing efficiency and reliability through varying levels of autonomy. Joji outlines five levels of network autonomy, with the industry currently in levels 2 and 3.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initial levels 0 and 1&nbsp; involve manual and assisted operations with limited automation, in which human oversight is paramount. As we progress to level 2, networks begin to operate with more autonomy, although still requiring significant human intervention to ensure reliability and trustworthiness. Level 3 introduces greater independence, where, based on intents, specified agents collaborate to manage networks efficiently but still with human oversight for most activities, paving the way for better network performance and customer experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, level 4 envisions a near-complete autonomous network operation, where AI systems independently manage telco networks, ensuring seamless operation and human intervention is needed only for critical activities. Each stage comes with its challenges and demands for human expertise, but the goal remains to achieve highly efficient, autonomous networks in the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges and Benefits of AI Adoption<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Will AI replace physical workers in the telecom industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Joji Philip<\/strong>: I don&#8217;t foresee a complete replacement of physical workers, especially in telco networks, within the next few years. Human expertise will remain crucial, particularly for supervisory roles, ensuring the reliability and trustworthiness of AI within critical networks. Addressing ethical AI involves avoiding biased results and ensuring that AI systems do not interact with irrelevant or inappropriate data, thereby maintaining focus and reliability in specific domains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Checks and balances are important in AI systems, particularly in critical industries like telecommunications, where the implications of an AI error could be significant. The deployment of AI in such contexts must be closely monitored to avoid malicious activities, ensure accuracy, and maintain security.
